This 40-hour Colorado POST-approved Handgun Instructor Program is designed to provide law enforcement officers the necessary skills and knowledge to develop and operate a law enforcement handgun-training program. Successful completion of the Handgun Instructor Certification as well as the 40-hour POST Instruction Methodology Program will make the student eligible to instruct in Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academies. This course will greatly enhance the student’s ability to diagnose shooting errors and provide practical and effective means to make permanent and sustainable corrections. The student will develop a full understanding of the fundamentals of shooting, efficient weapon manipulations, wound ballistics, combat shooting, and program development and management. Students must be a POST-certified or sworn law enforcement officer or deputy currently employed by a Colorado law enforcement agency.
Within 5 business days of enrollment, each participant must submit an email to Dianne Meier at the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, email@example.com from his/her supervisor confirming that the agency supports and approves of the participant’s registration in the class and that the participant will be considered to be on-duty for the entire class. If you cannot attend, please contact Dianne Meier to withdraw at least 5 business days before the first day of class.
All students will be given two attempts to pass Colorado POST Handgun Qualification Course on the first day of class with a 100% score. Failure to qualify or any safety violations throughout the duration of the course will result in immediate dismissal.
Student must provide: semi-auto pistol with 3 magazines (service weapon), 1000 rounds of ammo and 10 rounds of green or orange dummy rounds for service handgun, protective eyeglasses, ear protectors, standard duty belt with holster, a flashlight, handcuffs, and clothing appropriate for classroom and outdoor range training. There will be a dim light shooting class one afternoon, which will require clear eye protection.
